Background: End-stage renal disease (ESRD) and replacement therapy options are associated with malnutrition, which occurs in 30-50% of patients. Suboptimal nutritional status physical inactivity common peritoneal dialysis patients also consequences the restrictive diet, appetite loss, poor fitness. Materials methods: This single-center observational study aimed to analyze dietary intake, body composition, activity 19 (PD) Dietary assessment was performed a three-day 24-hour recall, while assessed composition measurements. Patients’ performance handgrip test sit-stand test. Each value expressed as percentage or mean ± SD. Continuous variables between normal values were compared using paired t-tests Wilcoxon signed ranks A two-tailed P <0.05 considered statistically significant. Results: The caloric intake 1545 295 kcal/day (21.4 kcal/kg BW/day), protein 0.8 g/kg BW/ day. mass index 24.4 2.9 kg/m2 , phase angle 5.2 0.9, lean tissue 14.5 2.8 adipose 9.3 3.6 . results sit-to-stand showed muscular weakness low intake. Assessment of physical activity, capacity and nutritional status in elderly peritoneal dialysis patients

BACKGROUND This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of sedentarism, and to assess physical capacity and nutritional status in a cohort of older patients on peritoneal dialysis (PD), with respect to age-matched non-dialysis CKD population, using highly accessible, simple methods, namely the Rapid Assessment of Physical activity (RAPA) test and the 30″ Sit-to-stand (STS) test. METHODS This c...

Physical Activity in Patients Treated With Peritoneal Dialysis

BACKGROUND Patients with chronic diseases are known to benefit from exercise. Despite a lack of compelling evidence, patients with end-stage kidney disease treated with peritoneal dialysis are often discouraged from participating in exercise programs that include resistance training due to concerns about the development of hernias and leaks. The actual effects of physical activity with or witho...

Impact of hydration and nutrition status on the Watson formula in peritoneal dialysis patients.

Urea clearance (Kt/V urea), adjusted for total body water (TBW) using the Watson formula (TBW(Watson)), is widely used to guide peritoneal dialysis (PD) prescription and to ensure dialysis adequacy. The impact of body composition on the determination of TBW(Watson) is well established, but the effect of hydration and nutrition status on TBW(Watson) is not understood. We therefore studied the ef...

Comparison of Marital Satisfaction in Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

Alternative kidney treatments, including renal transplantation, hemodialysis (HD), and peritoneal dialysis (PD), are administered when severe kidney failure occurs and the kidney can no longer function. The present study compares different dimensions of marital satisfaction in HD and PD patients so as to assist physicians and patients in choosing their appropriate treatment. This cross-se...

Nutrition supplements have been used with success in dialysis patients in increasing serum albumin levels. The National Kidney Foundation of South Carolina Nutrition Supplement Program provides grants for supplements. We studied the effect of supplements on albumin levels in peritoneal dialysi...
